BLT Add-Ons: Just One More Ingredient
BLT Season is upon us! The Midwest's garden tomato crop is finally turning red and ripe - and guess who brought home the bacon for making BLTs?! YOU did! Because YOU stopped at our place in Thorp, Wisconsin, - or you ordered online - and now you’re ready to serve up some of the best summer food you've had all season! ...lightly toasted white bread (it's gotta be white bread), a little mayo, a succulent slab of ripe tomato, crisp lettuce, and the best Hickory Smoked Bacon this side of the Mississippi!
Feeling adventurous? Turn the familiar trio into a fabulous quartet with the addition of unexpected fixings.
Avocado
Think you can't improve upon a classic? Think again - about avocados. The rich, creamy flavor of sliced avocado pairs perfectly with savory bacon and crisp lettuce. Once you've tried a BLAT, you'll never go back! This might just be our favorite BLT add-on ingredient, especially when you pair it with our Hickory Smoked Peppered Bacon.
Sprouts
Adding sprouts to your basic BLT is a no-brainer. They add a little extra crunch and a whole lot of nutrition. Just one cup of alfalfa sprouts contains a serious amount of vitamins K and C, along with fiber, folate, and lots of other key nutrients. Give your next BLT a nutritious twist - and sprout! What bacon would we use with this BLT upgrade? We would go with our Hickory Smoked Raspberry Chipotle Bacon.
Egg
Why not have breakfast for lunch - or lunch for breakfast? Wait…that’s brunch! BLTs already include the classic breakfast staples of toast and bacon. The only thing missing is an egg! Let's face it, we all like to dip our toast and bacon in a yummy runny egg. Plus, just one egg adds satiating nutrients, like six grams of protein and five grams of healthy fats. Really, any time of day is a good time to dig into a hearty BELT. Want to give this an extra touch of brunch? Try making this BLT with our Honey Cured Apple Cinnamon Bacon…sweet sandwich success!
Pickled Red Onion
If you really want to take a walk on the wild side, consider adding pickled red onion to your traditional BLT. The tangy and slightly sweet flavor complements the richness of the Hickory Smoked Bacon and adds brightness and crunchy texture to the whole sandwich. BLOT = BLISS! Seriously: try our hearty Hickory Smoked Butt Bacon for this BLT twist.
Peppers
Give your next BLT a little bit of sweet - or a little bit of heat - with peppers. Red, yellow, or green bell peppers pack a crunchy punch of nutritious vitamins and antioxidants. Their juicy freshness also provides a refreshing contrast to the smokiness of Nolechek’s Hickory Smoked Bacon.
…and for brave souls who like spice, try adding a jalapeño pepper instead - and keep a glass of milk nearby (we’re talking to you, Wisconsinites)!
Happy BLT Season from Nolechek’s Meats in little Thorp, Wisconsin!
